99 Cents Only Stores selects its new BI partner

99 Cents Only Stores has selected MicroStrategy for enterprise-wide reporting and analytics.

The company, which operates 271 value retail stores in the US, plans to use MicroStrategy-based reports and information dashboards for insights into product sales, store operations, inventory management, and merchandising.

99 Cents Only Stores is looking at monitoring key business metrics and quickly identifying trends.

There are several reasons behind using such solutions, be it for customer segmentation/ multi-channel service, store operations and merchandise planning. For instance, according to IBM, by having an enterprise view of data, companies can streamline the store ordering process and speed the flow of goods to stores by using inventory and sales information to determine when to replenish merchandise. They can also develop more effective product assortment plans based on individual store demographics and market trends. In terms of operational changes, companies can increase operational efficiency by performing better analysis on staffing, in-store production management, sales, losses, location and general characteristics of the stores.

To understand more about the benefits that BI can bring to retail operations, IBM has produced a great overview ‘Retail Intelligence’ as part of it’s Smart Planet series – http://www.ibm.com/ibm/ideasfromibm/us/smartplanet/topics/retail/20090105/index.shtml?&re=sph
