BI SaaS – Bleeding Edge or Leading Edge?

With the reported demise of LucidEra a provider of SaaS based BI are we still at a point where BI SaaS is still too new?

I attempted with a colleaguefrom a previous company to establish a service like this back in 2001, we were partly successful and had managed to gain a few clients before like LucidEra we ran out of money.  Our solution was a full BI SaaS offering, we were using SQL Server as the data warehouse and providing a copy of Business Objects on top of that for the client report access.  Each deployment was unique we didn’t provide a single set of pre-canned reports.

I still firmly belive that BI SaaS is a great tool for an SME to use, afterall how many SME’s have the specialist knowledge to create and manage a Business Intelligence environment, at a price point that makes it attractive for them.
